Vacuum Bags for Travel

Looking to save some space, keep your clothes organized, and wrinkle-free while traveling? Then vacuum bags (or compression bags) might just be your thing.

The air gets sucked right out of these bags, leaving you tons of extra space. We’re super excited to tell you why.

Benefits of Vacuum Bags

  • Space: By vacuuming the air out, you reduce the volume of your clothes, giving you more room in your suitcase.
  • Protection: Vacuum bags shield your stuff from dirt, moisture, and odors.
  • Organized: You can categorize your items.
  • Less Wrinkling: Packing your clothes in vacuum bags reduces the chance of wrinkles.

There are various sets available. So, check what you’ll need to pack beforehand. A 32-bag set might seem overkill.

I personally bought a 20-bag set because I find them handy at home too. We use them for our duvet and winter clothes when it warms up and vice versa. It definitely saves space in the storage and closet.

Vacuum Bag with a Pump

When you’re traveling, you don’t always have everything at hand. Online, you’ll find many bags without a hand pump. Then you’re dependent on a vacuum cleaner or an electric pump. Great, but not really for traveling.

Always opt for a vacuum bag with a hand pump. They weigh almost nothing, and you won’t need a vacuum cleaner if you’re in the middle of nowhere. If you do end up having a vacuum cleaner or something similar at hand, you can always use it on a vacuum bag.

My Experience with Vacuum Bags While Traveling

During my prep for a three-week journey through Southeast Asia, I faced a challenge many of us know: how can I bring as much essential stuff as possible in my backpack?

The solution came in the form of vacuum bags, a product I had heard of but never tried myself. I decided to buy a set, skeptical but hopeful that this would be the solution.

I chose the Cozy Essential brand with different sizes, including a hand pump. The first thing I noticed was how simple it was. I placed my clothes, towels, and even an extra pillow in the bags, sucked the air out with the hand pump, and was truly amazed by the amount.

But the real test came during my trip. From the humid areas in Thailand to the sandy beaches of Vietnam, my stuff stayed dry, organized, and reasonably free from wrinkles.

An unexpected bonus was how the vacuum bags served as an excellent organizer. I used the smaller bags for underwear and electronics, while the larger ones were perfect for clothes and towels. This was a step up from packing cubes.

Looking back on my trip, I can confidently say that the vacuum bags were one of the best investments I’ve made.

Give them a try and see how they can enhance your travel experience. They’re relatively cheap, and you can also use them at home.

Extra Tips for Vacuum Bags

  • Don’t Overfill: While it might be tempting to stuff as much as possible into one bag, this can make it harder to effectively suck the air out and close the bag.
  • Leave Room for the Return Trip: Keep in mind that you’ll probably buy extra stuff during your trip. So leave some space or bring an extra vacuum bag for the return journey.
  • Check for Airtightness: Make sure the bag is well sealed and check for any holes. You can easily fix them with a patch.

Vacuum bags are truly a discovery for packing your suitcase. I hadn’t thought of it before, but now I wouldn’t know what to do without them.

Try it out and let us know your experience.

Safe travels!
